RDATE:23052011
Mexico City -- Motorola Mobility, Inc. is holding today the third Mexican edition of the MOTODEV App Summit in Mexico City. This is the company's global program for developers, offering access to a set of tools and resources for the Android(TM) platform.
This year the focus will be on the development of apps optimized for the company's hottest new launches: the Motorola XOOM, the first tablet with Android 3.0, and the Motorola ATRIX, the most powerful smartphone in the world. The event will be held at the St Regis Hotel, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and enrolment is free of charge.
The series of meetings began in the USA in March of this year. After visiting Europe and Asia, it arrives in Latin America this month. In addition to Mexico, there were sessions in Argentina and Brazil.
In this edition, participants will learn how to design applications for tablets, They will receive advanced training on the new features of Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) and how to program applications for the Motorola XOOM tablet... MOTODEV program engineers will also provide developers with information on Motorola's new Webtop application, an innovative and unique solution available on the Motorola ATRIX.
The objective of the MOTODEV App Summit is to bring together the most creative and innovative applications developers in the country for a full day's immersion in the advanced features of the Android platform, with complete resources and support for the creation and implementation of applications optimized for Motorola devices.
"Motorola puts all its efforts into supporting a global network of developers in the successful development, deployment, and commercialization of Android applications to unleash their innovative potential on mobile applications development," said Paul Leeper, senior director, ecosystem and partner management. "The release of the Motorola XOOM opens up a new opportunity for us to develop new personalized mobile experiences in an emerging market segment."
Support to the Android developer community in Mexico
Motorola Mobility also works along with business partners and the academy in Mexico with the purpose of offering more and enhanced applications based on the Android system benefitting both the enterprise sector and user's personal experience, in turn denoting a self-sustained ecosystem for developers.
During 2010, conferences and specialized workshops were held on the development of Android-based applications in universities such as the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM Lago de Guadalupe) and the Technological University of the Mixteca (UTM, in Spanish), where about 200 students got the chance to learn about the advantages of Android and the professional development and self-employment opportunities thanks to the applications focused on this operating system. Likewise, Motorola donated cell phones for both universities, and MC55 handsets at the UTM.
In 2011 Motorola continues to set up sessions with developers (aimed at both universities, for training purposes, and private-sector developers), where trainees will have the chance to learn how to design applications based on the Android platform, helping Mexican mobile phone users overcome everyday challenges on productivity, education, communication, entertainment, and socialization, in turn simplifying and enriching their lives.
In this regard, Motorola Mobility and Androidtitlan --a Mexican community fostering the development of applications especially designed for the Android SDK mobile platform-- met with 77 enthusiastic developers in February to promote an Android application development. Sessions with universities such as the IPN, ITAM, and ITESM have also been held.
Ronnie Vera, Product Manager for Motorola Mobility, added: "This year we introduced a comprehensive product portfolio to attend enterprise needs. From devices which appeal to the mass market such as Spice and robust handsets perfectly suitable for fieldwork, such as Defy, to powerful devices such as Atrix and Milestone 2. Motorola XOOM has also awakened great interest. Honeycomb's Software Development Kit has just been released, so developers now dispose of all the tools they need to create applications for our tablet."
The MOTODEV ecosystem supports the growing base of Android applications which leverage the advanced capabilities of Motorola devices and promote the development of innovative, localized mobile content and services. About Motorola Mobility
